  10.    Audio Evolution is an audio harddisk recording system primarily aimed at
  11.    musicians who want an easy-to-use multitrack recorder for home-studio
  12.    applications. It's based on the AHI system by Martin Blom, which makes
  13.    it possible to run Audio Evolution on every modern soundcard designed for
  14.    Amiga computers. Because of the efficient mixing routines of AHI, it's
  15.    possible to play up to 30 tracks at the same time on expanded systems,
  16.    even without PowerPC technology. But that's not what makes it a good
  17.    harddisk recording system: Audio Evolution also offers a versatile mixing
  18.    desk including individual channel and master level display, mute, solo,
  19.    panning, subgroups and realtime effects. Besides that, full mixer automation
  20.    gives you mixing possibilities only limited by your imagination. Also take
  21.    a look at the timeline display with its marker system for fast positioning
  22.    in the song, locators and punch in/out features which saves you precious
  23.    time in your recording session.

  26.    Features of Audio Evolution:

  28.    - Up to 30 (stereo) samples simultaneously. 
  29.      The amount of samples you can actually play depends on:
  30.  
  31.         * Processor power: since all the mixing is done by the processor,
  32.           more channels can be mixed at higher frequencies on faster
  33.           processors.
  34.         * Speed of your harddisk and harddisk-controller. SCSI is
  35.           preferred.
  36.         * The AHI-mode you have selected. Is it a stereo mode, stereo++
  37.           mode with panning, fast mode etcetera?

  39.    - Full duplex recording for simultaneous recording and playback
  40.        
  41.    - A mixing desk provides you with realtime control over volume, panning, solo
  42.      and mute per channel. Every channel has a separate volume PPM display.
  43.      Also three realtime effects can be plugged in and the channel can be 
  44.      assigned to one of four subgroups.
  45.      A mastervolume slider and a stereo master volume indicator are present too.

  47.    - Separate window for 4 subgroups with solo and mute per group.

  49.    - Full mixer-automation based on event-list: channel faders, panning,
  50.      mutes, master volume, subgroup volumes and subgroup mutes can be automated.
  51.      Automation events can be edited directly on the timeline.

  53.    - PowerPC realtime effects with the following runtime (near real-time)
  54.      possibilities:

  56.         * Parameter change
  57.         * On/off state switch
  58.         * Removal of effects
  59.         
  60.      Also, possible CPU overload is detected, preventing lock-ups during playback.

  62.    - A Time Line Display provides you with an overview of the loaded samples and
  63.      their durations. Samples can be moved along the timeline.

  65.    - A marker mechanism on top of the timeline lets you place locators, punch in/out
  66.      markers and the time marker easily, giving quick and accurate access to
  67.      these items.

  69.    - Sample-editing with the usual features like cut,paste,copy,erase range. Direct
  70.      to disk, not limited by memory.

  72.    - Effects like Delay, Noise Gate, Chorus, Comp/Limiter, Amplifier, Parametric EQ
  73.      and FIR-filters can be applied.

  75.    - MIDI synchronisation: by sending a MIDI start-command and a Song Position
  76.      Pointer, you can synchronize audio with an external MIDI sequencer. You
  77.      can also receive MIDI start-commands, synchronize to Bars&Pipes or to the
  78.      camd.library.

  83. INSTALLATION

  85. You should first install Audio Evolution with the installer that came with the
  86. package. No assigns are needed.

  89. AUDIO MODES
  90. -----------
  91. Please select a 'fast stereo++' mode for your soundcard.
  92. Preferably not Hifi and non-realtime modes.
  93. Delfina users should check if they have the latest versions of the Delfina
  94. libraries and shouldn't use the 'AnyFreq' modes because the AHI driver
  95. can give some troubles.
